Travel agents will remain important, say ABTA chairman candidates

Travel agents will remain important to the future of ABTA, the two candidates for the chairmanship have told Travel Weekly.

Britaly Travel boss Daniele Broccoli and Advantage chief executive John McEwan have answered five key questions on the future of ABTA, subscriptions and how the association can be more effective at lobbying.

John McEwan said: “The ABTA travel agent will continue to play a role in the distribution of travel. They will be seen as an expert, providing objectivity and a broad range of products, which all offer customer protection. The ABTA brand must be seen as a stamp of quality.”

Daniele Broccoli said: “The role of the ABTA travel agent will remain the same as it is now: providing protection, expert advice to clients, and booking all their travel needs. It makes me smile when I hear people say there will be hardly any travel agents left on the high street, as they really do not know what they are on about.”
