Explore Worldwide wins green award

Explore staff are celebrating after the tour operator won an award for its green credentials.

The company was placed 18th on The Sunday Times Green List 2009, with compilers recognising “its impact on the environment is minimal, its workers around the world are treated fairly, and local cultures and customs are respected.”

Explore managing director Ashley Toft congratulated staff as the tour operator was the only travel company to make the top 60 last month, following an independent audit.

He added: “Our responsible tourism manager Fran Hughes and our staff passionately believe in the importance of adopting best eco practice.

“Since January 2008, all customer flights have [had their carbon emissions offset] and we support a considerable number of schemes and charities across the world.

“Closer to home, we encourage staff to walk or cycle to work, and to recycle everything from CDs to bras.”
