Peltours sales and marketing director Darren Panto quit his role yesterday after 13 years working for the Egypt specialist.
Panto said the split is entirely amicable and he has no other job lined up.
Instead, he is taking the opportunity to consider his future, although he admits he may be drawn back to another job in travel.
He said: “I had to do it now. I’ve hit my 40s and it is time for a new challenge. I want to take some time out and have a look at what is around.”
Following Panto’s departure, the sales and marketing director role will be handled by Peltours managing director Stuart Lewis.
