Actress Sophia Loren is set to christen the MSC Spendida, the second in MSC Cruises’ Fantasia line of ships, on Sunday in Barcelona. Loren continues in her role as godmother for the cruiseline, having also christened MSC Lirica, MSC Opera, MSC Poesia and several others. Spanish tenor Jose Carreras and Flamenco dance troupe Los Vivanco will perform at the launch event. The 3,300-passenger MSC Splendida is the sister ship of the MSC Fantasia, christened last December. Both ships offer the all-inclusive MSC Yacht Club, a luxury area at the top of the ship with its own dining area, swimming pool and concierge service. Some 80% of cabins have balconies, which is the highest ratio among its fleet. The ship’s maiden voyage in the Mediterranean is already sold out. Managing director Giulio Libutti said: “Sales for 2009 have doubled from the South East and Scotland since we increased our sales team from three to seven.
