COACH operator Busabout has slashed the price of its month-long European pass by £80 to compete with Rail Europe’s £259 Inter-Rail pass.
From next summer, a month-long pass on the hop-on hop-off service will cost £255.
Managing director Phil Gazzard said: “We think we have a better product because we drop travellers off right at the hostels they are staying at each city instead of just at the station. It’s time we started competing on price too.”
The company also plans to alter its product having just completed a survey of 10,000 travellers who used its network this summer. In the survey, 46% of travellers named Prague as their favourite destination, prompting the operator to consider increasing its service to the city. It is also looking at adding more services to the 59 other town and cities it currently visits, with one 49-seater coach arriving every day rather than every two days.
Gazzard said: “It’s a big step. Increasing capacity to one city would mean doing it with all of them because of how the service operates.”
The operator is also planning to put on additional coaches to rural Spain and northern Portugal.
