Club Med reveals details of new flagship resort in Dominican Republic

The first details have emerged of a new eco-friendly Club Med resort in the Dominican Republic.

The all-inclusive operator’s first Exclusive Collection 5 Trident resort in the Americas is to open in December 2019 with bookings available from January.

The Michès Playa Esmeralda resort will be located in the region of Miches, about an hour and a half drive north of Punta Cana, where Club Med already has a property.

The 93-acre resort will act as the new flagship in the region. Other Exclusive Collection resorts are in the Maldives, Mauritius, Sicily and the French Alps.

The new resort will feature four villages, each with its own unique environment, activities and accommodation:

Archipelago – Oceanfront sanctuary exclusively for adults

Caribbean Paradise – At the centre of the resort next to swimming pools, nightly shows and activities

Emerald Jungle – Relaxing eco-chic retreat including Club Med’s adults-only Zen Oasis concept

Explorer Cove – Aimed a families with activities and children’s clubs for ages of four months to 17

The infrastructure of the project has undergone a series of assessments on its environmental, social and economic sustainability performance.

Once finished, the resort’s daily operations will perform under Green Globe certification to meet the highest standards of sustainability.

The resort will also enact a no plastic straw initiative as part of Club Med’s global commitment to eliminate single-use plastics from all resorts.

Educational mini-sessions and a community garden for guests will also be available to learn about gardening, recycling and other sustainable action.

Club Med UK and Northern Europe managing director Estelle Giraudeau said: “We are delighted to be opening Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda in winter 2019/20 and expand our Exclusive Collection offering for new and existing customers.

“The Americas is a key market for our UK customers and we continue to see interest in this region demonstrated through the growth in sales in recent years.

“Staying true to the property’s surrounding natural beauty, our newly announced environmentally friendly approach will help preserve and conserve the ecological environment in which the resort finds itself.

“There will be something on offer for all tastes from a range of unique activities through to secluded pockets of serenity. We can’t wait for guests to experience Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda.”
