Luton airport saw a 7.9% rise in passengers last month to a record of more than 1.5 million.
The October growth over the same month last year comes as the airport is reaching the end of a three-year transformation.
The £160 million redevelopment is the largest in the airport’s 80-year history and includes improved access through a new dual carriageway, bus terminal and multi-storey car park.
The terminal has also been upgraded with an expanded security search area, new boarding pier and renovated departures lounge.
The scheme will increase capacity to 18 million passengers a year from almost 16 million in 2017, allowing the airport to meet increasing customer demand.
It follows the introduction of 36 new routes this year from easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, SunExpress, Tui and Thomas Cook Airlines.
New destinations include Verona, Tallinn and Gibraltar.
Airport CEO Nick Barton said: “This is an exciting time for the airport, as we continue to welcome more passengers and introduce more routes.
“Our transformation will only improve passengers’ journeys, making them easier and more enjoyable.
“We look forward to our passengers, staff and local community feeling the benefits of a busy and successful airport.”
The airport is operated and developed by a consortium of which the majority shareholder is Spanish airports operator AENA and specialist global investment manager AMP Capital.
