Liverpool airport records 5% passenger surge

Liverpool John Lennon airport (LJLA) has recorded a 5% passenger rise for the start of the winter season.

During October more than 467,000 passengers travelled through the airport, an increase of 22,000 compared to the previous year, taking growth for the year up to 135,000.

The increase comes in the same month that Wizz Air started flights to Cluj, Iasi and Bucharest from Liverpool, Ryanair started a new service to Paphos and easyJet started flights to Toulouse.

Airport bosses said popular destinations included Alicante, Malaga, Palma, Rome, Dublin, Amsterdam and Paris.

LJLA also boasted low queue times, with data from the airport showing 99% of passengers pass through security in 10 minutes or less.
