GOING Places has sacked all the cleaners in its small agencies and instructed shop managers to do the vacuuming themselves.
The extraordinary move will affect around 500 shops and save the multiple over half of its £1m cleaning costs.
Managers reacted in astonishment after being told of the cuts.
“As manager of a £2m shop I have been told to go out and buy rubber gloves, an apron and taught how to read labels on bottles of bleach,” one shop manager said. “It is an absolute disgrace.”
Going Places managing director Terry Fisher confirmed all overheads are being reviewed.
“Cleaning is a major one of these overheads,” he added.
