Travel Counsellors celebrate Caribbean win

Travel Counsellor Mandy Oldknow and her team ‘Independence’ are celebrating after winning a special ‘Carry on Cruising’ promotion in conjunction with Royal Caribbean International.

The winning team will set sail onboard Celebrity Century on a cruise to Barcelona, Cannes, Portofino, Florence, Rome and Capri on October 17.

During August, the UK and Ireland Travel Counsellors took part in the sales competition where agents competed in 32 teams. Each team was named after a Royal Caribbean or Celebrity Cruises ship.

There were more than 50 ‘races’, based on sales performance, as part of the promotion.

Each Travel Counsellor had access to their own page on the company’s intranet system and they tracked their team’s performance and position on a world map.

Passenger numbers during the incentive period for 2009 departures with Celebrity were up 418% and Royal Caribbean up 91%. The company also had its best ever sales day on August 7 with sales of £985,000.

Oldknow said: “When I became captainc I only knew three or four of the people in my team. As a result of the challenge I have made so many new friends.

“These incentives are really important as they help to motivate people and create a sense of camaraderie among agents.”

Travel Counsellors sales director Malcolm Hingley said: “The winning Travel Counsellors will be able to enjoy an unforgettable cruise onboard Celebrity Century. As a company, we are firm believers in the fact that you can’t beat first-hand experience of a destination or ship. We encourage all our Counsellors to go on educationals so they can give the best possible service to their clients.”
