Langham Hotels International is to open a resort in the Bahamas as part of significant expansion plans.
The luxury hotel company has signed an agreement to launch the 224-room Langham Place, Resort and Spa in Port St George, Bahamas in 2013.
“We believe this five-star resort will appeal to a market of independent, yet adventurous travellers who haven’t been effectively addressed before,” said Langham Hotels chief executive Brett Butcher.
The hotel will be on a 1,000 acre development with a 640-berth marina, golf course, traditional Chinese-style spa and its own resident DJ.
Langham Hotels has more than doubled the number of hotels that are open or in development from 10 to 21 in the last 12 months. It has also signed agreements on a further 13.
“Building or acquiring hotels during a recession is a sensible investment strategy. The construction costs are lower and it allows us to bring new product to the market with it recovers,” said Butcher.
