Second Fred Olsen ship is struck by vomiting bug

Passengers on board Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Boudicca have been struck down by a norovirus-like infection, just one month after another of the cruiseline’s ships was hit by the vomiting bug.

Fifty-seven passengers out of the 1,140 onboard Boudicca have so far been affected by gastroenteritis-like symptoms. Twenty-seven passengers remain in isolation, including six who are under observation.

The ship, which is on a 21-night cruise of the Adriatic, departed Portsmouth on October 5 and is due to end in Portsmouth October 26. Ports of call to date have been Malaga, Cagliari, Catania, Koper, Venice and Dubrovnik.

In a statement, the cruiseline said: “In accordance with guidelines set down by the Health Protection Agency, staff throughout Boudicca have stepped up their already fastidious hygiene and disinfecting regime.

“Port health officials have been notified and have expressed satisfaction with the action being taken on board.”

Last month 72 passengers on Fred Olsen’s Balmoral were isolated in their cabins after contracting the virus.
