NCL pulls in big-name acts for Norwegian Epic

Rock and roll piano show Howl at the Moon, and the US’s longest-running celebrity tribute show Legends in Concert, are among the shows that will be on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Epic when it is launched in July 2010.

Howl at the Moon, playing in 14 US locations, will be a four-hour, late-night show comprising two piano players, who will be performing four times on seven-night cruise in the Headliners comedy club.

Legends in Concert is a live tribute show performing in eight US venues, including Las Vegas, Seattle and Atlantic City, and features celebrity names such as Elvis, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Barry White, Cher and Tina Turner.

Three celebrity performers will give six, 45-minute shows over three days on a seven-night cruise. They will also be performing cabaret-style shows on three nights in the Manhattan Room, the New York-inspired supper club on Norwegian Epic. The performers will be changed every four months to keep the shows fresh.

NCL director of entertainment, programming and development Richard Kilman said his goal was to change the face of cruise ship entertainment on Norwegian Epic.

The cruiseline has already announced that the Blue Man Group, which has shows across the US as well as Berlin, Tokyo and Zurich, will be on the ship, and there will be a two-hour, dinner-cum acrobatic show called Cirque Dreams and Dinner. It has also created a new position of entertainments director to look after the entertainment venues on the ship.

The 4,200-passenger Norwegian Epic, under construction at the STX Europe shipyard in St Nazaire, France, will dock in Southampton on June 22 next year for a two-night visit for trade partners before relocating to Miami, from where it will be sailing seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruises.
