Video: Virgin Voyages builds beach club and reveals entertainment on board

Virgin Voyages is building a beach club in the Bahamas which will be included in every itinerary and has revealed details of the entertainment onboard Scarlet Lady.

The Beach Club is being constructed on Bimini Island which will host yoga, meditation and pool parties. Grammy-award winning British DJ Mark Ronson has been booked to play four times at the site in 2020.

The 4.5-acre beach site will have six bars, hammock areas and poolside cabanas, which will be available to rent.

Bimini Island has seven miles of beaches and passengers will be able to visit any of them during the day-long stop-off.

Passengers will be able to go diving and witness the shipwreck of SS Sapona just a few miles off the coast of the southern part of the island.

Meanwhile, entertainment onboard Scarlet Lady will include a production by an X-rated cabaret club owner and a sex therapist comic.

Randy Weiner is the producer behind hit immersive play Sleep No More and owner of London cabaret club The Box Soho.

Sex therapist Dr Alex Shiller will appear on stage in another production and invite audience members on stage to participate.

Around 80 pop-up shows will take place throughout the ship alongside a collection of micro plays called Phantom Folktales will be performed around the ship.

Virgin Voyages’s main entertainment venue on Scarlet Lady will be a theatre called The Red Room with a retractable floor.

The Red Room can transform into four different configurations and is inspired by the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts in California, US.

Of the six productions on board, Circus company The 7 Fingers is behind another two – including an acrobatic retelling of Romeo & Juliet.

Choreographers have created a dance party that features inflatable animals, music videos and vocals.

Frank Weber, senior vice president, hotel operations, said: “Every time the passengers see The Red Room, we will have another experience on offer.

“There will be all kinds of things happening – no size fits all.”

Weber said the line would fully embrace technology in order to enhance passenger experience and front-of-house operations.

“We will be revealing more about that in the coming months,” he said. “We cannot do without technology – we need to have it all the time in our daily lives.”

He said the technology would make the onboard experience “seamless” and would be intuitive.

Sailings for Virgin Voyages went on sale today (February 14).  Scarlet Lady will launch in April 2020 and sail Caribbean itineraries.
