Industry working together on Package Travel Directive consultation

An industry-wide working group met for the first time this week to discuss the European Union’s Package Travel Directive consultation.

The meeting, co-ordinated by ABTA, was attended by representatives from:

  • ABTA
  • The Federation of Tour Operators
  • The Association of Independent Tour Operators
  • The Passenger Shipping Association
  • The Co-operative Travel Group
  • Advantage Travel Centres
  • Worldchoice

The group has now decided a timetable for gathering industry data and will send out questionnaires about the directive to all ABTA members, which must be returned by December 22.

The group will meet in January 2010 to collate the findings, which will then be discussed by the ABTA board.

Chief executive Mark Tanzer said: “We are pleased that all the industry has agreed to work together.”
