The credit card processing company suspected of witholding funds from Globespan Group has said it is working with administrators to address the “complexities” of the failed airline’s financial position.
In the first statement issued by the provider, it said:: “E-Clear is committed to working closely with the administrators of Globespan Group to clarify and address the various complexities around the airline’s financial position, so that matters may be resolved as quickly as possible.
“As one of the world’s leading payment card processing companies, we have many years’ experience in the airline industry and we will bring this expertise to bear in pursuit of an equitable solution that reflects the interests of all parties.”
E-Clear expressed its “deepest sympathy” for the customers and staff of Globespan Group affected by the airline’s move into administration on Wednesday.
Scottish finance minister John Swinney said the airline would have stood a better chance of survival if E-Clear had paid it the £34 million owed, including £20 million from passengers who had already travelled.
Bruce Cartwright, who works for the administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers, confirmed the money held by E-Clear was in the region of £30 million and said said he would look into why the money was not passed on.
