National rail strikes over the Easter weekend may ruin domestic breaks for thousands of holidaymakers.
Following a vote for strike action by maintenance workers, supervisors and signallers Superbreak sales director Ian Mounser said it would be “stupid to say this won’t potentially have an impact.”
He added: “It is a busy time and we would expect to have, for example approximately 10,000 people making their way to London, predominantly by train.
“This could also impact on last minute bookings which are a big part of our business as people may decide to go closer to home or put off a trip.
“For those who have already booked we will have to see what the impact is going to be and take each case individually.
“Some will want to postpone, some will find alternative transport and some will want to cancel completely and we will be as flexible as possible.”
If the strikes go ahead they would be the first rail strikes in 16 years. Talks are taking place this week between union leaders and senior Network Rail management over plans to axe 1,500 maintenance jobs and safety concerns over restructuring.
