Short-break operators keep it in the family

Futuroscope and Center Parcs’ two holiday villages in France.

Brand manager Andy Noble said the response to the programme was good. “The two Center Parcs in France sell better than all the others we feature,” he said. “We sell seven altogether and the two in France account for 30% of our Center Parcs business.”

Bridge features three, four and seven-night Center Parc packages £275 for a family of four at Les Bois-Francs village in Normandy, which includes accommodation, short-sea crossings and taxes.

Travelscene has added Les Bois-Francs to its Family Short Breaks brochure this year after seeing business treble for similar holiday villages in Holland and Germany.

Travelscene commercial manager Paul Stanley said: “Adding the strong brand name of Center Parcs to our holiday parks product of Gran Dorado and Sunparks is a natural development due to the demand for this type of holiday.”

Travelscene has also introduced breaks by air to the Cite de l’Espace theme park near Toulouse, which is featured alongside more established parks such as Disneyland Paris, Parc Asterix and Futuroscope.

“Cite de l’Espace is a natural for families with slightly older children who are fascinated by technology and space exploration,” added Stanley.

A three-night break in Toulouse starts at £289 per person, including flights.

Crystal Premier France has added more family friendly properties to its programme for next year. Product manager Simone Clark said: “The demand for family-oriented resorts has been immense for 1999 and for 2000 we have looked for accommodation with swimming pools, children’s clubs and play areas.”

Crystal is also planning to add two new young children’s clubs in France next year. They are staffed by English-speaking nannies and offer between three half-days and six full days childcare a week. Prices start at £54 for the three half-days.

SHORT-BREAK operators are targeting the family market by dedicating more space in their France brochures to child friendly products.

In particular they are including more French theme parks and giving extra space to feature holiday villages such as Center Parcs.

Bridge Travel Service went one step further this year with the launch of its brochure aimed specifically at the growing family market. Called Theme Parks and Holiday Villages, the programme covers Disneyland Paris, Parc Asterix, Futuroscope and Center Parcs’ two holiday villages in France.

Brand manager Andy Noble said the response to the programme was good. “The two Center Parcs in France sell better than all the others we feature,” he said. “We sell seven altogether and the two in France account for 30% of our Center Parcs business.”
