Cruise industry urged to join Clia charity cycle

Delegates heading to the Clia Cruise Forum and Winter Ball have been encouraged to pull on their cycling shorts and raise money for charity this December.

The cruise trade association is holding its Cycle to the Ball event for the third year running, but for the first time riders will be able to choose between a 50-mile or 90-mile route.

Cyclists, who will be raising money for the Family Holiday Association (FHA), will start their journey near Southampton and ride west towards De Vere Cotswolds Water Park Hotel in Gloucestershire.

The Clia Cruise Forum and Winter Ball will be held at the hotel venue on December 18. The ride will take place the day before.

Andy Harmer, Clia UK & Ireland, said: “Last year, thanks to the fundraising efforts by Clia UK & Ireland members and its supporters, we were absolutely delighted to be able to help the FHA send over 330 families on a precious day out at the British seaside or local tourist attraction.

“This year we hope to send even more families on a well-deserved break.

“We already have 13 people signed up and we’d love to get that number even higher.

“It is a relatively serious itinerary, so you will need to make sure that you train and have the right gear, but we can assure you that it will be worth it and it’s all for a great cause.”
