Local issues hamper Czech take-up of Prague service

CZECH people are not opting to use Go’s new Prague service, according to the airline.

UKpassengers have accounted for 90% of business on the route which was launched on September 23. Go’s distribution in the Czech capital has been limited because the airline does not use agents.

Another problem is the Czechs do not generally use credit cards and are not familiar with booking tickets over the telephone. Go’s Internet outlet is barely used in Prague.

This has posed problems for the direct-sell carrier, which is relying heavily on ex-UK residents and UK Government officials to boost numbers from Prague. Network manager Steven Horner said the airline expected British trade interests in Prague to use the service and publicise the route to Stansted.

Horner has met the Czech media to put Go’s message across.

The airline has also hosted trips to London for journalists to explain the differences between Go and the other UK airlines serving Prague – British Airways and British Midland.

However, Go is confident its profile will rise in the Czech Republic and is planning to double capacity next summer.

Flights will go from daily to two a day as the airline gets new aircraft.
