Abta chief executive Mark Tanzer is preparing to address two major European Union tourism events in the next 10 days.
Tanzer has been booked to moderate the opening session at the European Tourism Stakeholders Conference which is being held in Madrid today April 14 and tomorrow April 15 and which has been set up to help the European Commission develop an EU-wide Tourism Policy Framework.
Speakers in the session include Tui chairman Michael Frenzel and Italian minister for tourism Michela Brambilla and topics up for discussion include innovation and competitiveness, sustainable tourism and Europe’s image as a tourist destination.
Tanzer has also been invited to give a keynote speech at an EU workshop on the Package Travel Directive in Brussels on April 22. Delegates will be presented with the findings of the Package Travel Directive consultation to date and will be presented with various policy options.
Other attendees expected at the consultation include the European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Association and the European Technology and Travel Services Association. Abta is the only national organisation invited to address the event.
An Abta spokeswoman said: “These engagements prove that Abta and its members are getting their messages across to the heart of European policy making.”
