IMMINUS has announced it will no longer provide traditional viewdata to new customers and will introduce them to an Internet-based service instead.
The announcement comes as rival X-TANT rolls out its own Internet technology service.
Despite pushing for the new system when he took over the helm at X-TANT in March, managing director Dave Osborne has always insisted that support levels for agents who prefer the traditional viewdata would be maintained.
Imminus’ general manager Keith Webber said: “Our decision to cease sales of standard viewdata will not impact existing standard Fastrak viewdata users. They will continue to be supported as long as is required.”
Both companies say the benefits of the Internet protocol viewdata, are numerous. Agents will be able to access multiple reservation systems on a single screen as well as having a number of terminals sharing the same line.
Webber added: “Some 2,000 agents have migrated across to Internet protocol viewdata over the past 12 months and Imminus has been selling this to all its new clients. We believe the benefits of Internet protocol viewdata meets the needs of agents in a more effective way than standard viewdata and demand for it is increasing.”
X-TANT’s marketing manager Julian Palmer said: “With our Internet protocol network, agents will be able to take advantage of new travel reservations as operators bring them out. It means they will be able to use the existing viewdata system but switch to Internet protocol when the need arises.”
