Twiggy, who defined the term ‘supermodel’ in the 1960s, has been confirmed as the godmother of the new Yachts of Seabourn ship, Seabourn Sojourn.
The vessel will be officially named in the Thames at Greenwich on June 4 and host a gala fundraising event for charity Breast Cancer Haven, which is marking its 10th birthday, the following day.
Twiggy, more recently known for starring in Marks & Spencer television adverts, is a campaigner for breast cancer charities, as well as animal welfare causes.
She said: “I am incredibly excited that Seabourn has asked me to be godmother to Seabourn Sojourn. I am thrilled that Seabourn is combining their inaugural celebrations with Breast Cancer Haven’s 10 year anniversary – it really is a wonderful organisation.”
Pamela Conover, president and chief executive of The Yachts of Seabourn added: “Seabourn enjoys a truly international clientele and welcomes a significant number of new and repeat British guests on nearly every sailing.
“As such, it is entirely appropriate that we should choose London to introduce our beautiful new vessel to the world. We are all very much looking forward to welcoming Twiggy on board Seabourn Sojourn. She is the perfect choice to name our beautiful new yacht in London.”
Following an early morning transit of the River Thames, Sojourn will position at Greenwich for two days of inaugural celebrations, and will sail from there on its maiden voyage on Sunday June 6.
