The two Thomas Cook reps found not guilty for the deaths of two children in Corfu face a retrial, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
Richard Carson, 28, and Nicola Gibson, 26, will be among 11 of the 12 accused to face an appeal trial despite their acquittal earlier this month following a lengthy trial.
Both reps were found not guilty of manslaughter by negligence of seven-year-old Christianne Shepherd and her brother Bobby, six, and causing bodily injury by negligence in relation to the children’s father Neil Shepherd and his partner Ruth Beatson.
The family had been staying at the Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel in October 2006 when the tragedy happened. Both adults also slipped into comas but survived.
The Daily Telegraph cites legal sources claiming Corfu prosecutors believe ‘vital court evidence’ concerning the two reps and the Greek technicians was ignored by judges.
They add the guilty verdicts called for by court prosecutor Maria Tataki had been largely ignored.
Hotel manager Georgios Chrysikopoulos, head of the hotel technical department Petros Stoyiannos and hotel electrician Christos Louvros were each sentenced to seven years. Civil engineer Dimitrios Xidias was given two years on probation.
