Kuoni is to begin distributing all of its brochures in compostable wrappers from next week as it moves to reduce its use of single-use plastic.
The same material, made from potato starch, will be used as the packaging for customers’ tickets and travel documentation.
Kuoni’s next major mailing is its customer magazine, which will be distributed from August in the new bags.

Derek Jones, chief executive of Kuoni parent Der Touristik, said: “The time is right to move away from plastic and we think this is a great alternative as it’s fully compostable, just like the wrapping for Travel Weekly.
“Customers are being turned off brands that are not switched on to plastic pollution and as a premium brand we want to lead the way. It is one of the launch pledges in our Stay Beautiful campaign, which is our new responsible travel initiative geared towards taking action to keep our world beautiful for future generations to enjoy.
“We think it’s a move which will be welcomed by customers and our staff are helping to drive it.”
