REGIONALairports have hit out at the Government’s lack of planning for growth in their sector.
Senior executives from airports, including Birmingham International and Teesside International, spoke out at last week’s Labour Party conference in Bournemouth.
Birmingham’s managing director Brian Summer told delegates at a tourism fringe meeting that access to the UK through regional airports is being neglected on behalf of London.
“Earmarking resources to promote London at the expense of the regions must stop,” he said. “There must be a fairer balance of UK resources, and the level of funding for the English Tourism Council and regional tourist boards must be increased.”
Minister for Tourism Janet Anderson said the Government would ensure there was a level playing field.
