BA predicts 70,000 World Cup passengers to South Africa

British Airways expects to fly more than 70,000 passengers to South Africa during the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on Friday.


Dedicated aircraft painted with black and white football nose cones will operate on some of the services.


BA will be making special on-board announcements on South Africa flights to invite passengers to back the England 2018 World Cup bid. It is official airline of the England bid.


The airline runs seven flights a week to Cape Town and 19 flights to Johannesburg as well as providing domestic links with South African franchise carrier Comair.


South African Tourism is expecting around 25,000 England fans to travel to the country after 97,000 tickets were sold in the UK.
