Countryfile presenter and Kuoni brand ambassador Anita Rani is helping to put Sri Lanka back on the map with the launch of a new film for the operator.
In the film, Rani creates a bespoke itinerary in which she climbs Sigiriya rock, treks through the jungle to the temples at Dambulla, sees baby elephants in Minneriya National Park and tries traditional Sri Lankan egg hoppers.
The film is being launched on Kuoni’s social media channels throughout August to promote the destination.
Kuoni is also increasing its marketing activity to support Sri Lanka by investing in staff and travel agent educationals and media trips.
Sri Lanka came second in Kuoni’s Worldwide Travel Report 2019, which lists the most booked destinations.
This was before the Easter Sunday attacks which saw three churches and three luxury hotels targeted, killing 258 people, including 45 foreign nationals.
A travel ban implemented by the FCO following the attacks was lifted in June.
Derek Jones, Kuoni chief executive, said: “Anita is such a popular and well-loved personality, her enthusiasm for the destination shines through. She brings her own insight to the film, which shows the diversity of a small island rich in history, culture and natural wonders.”
Rani said: “I’ve totally fallen in love with Sri Lanka. Uncrowded beaches, history, culture, adventure, incredible food – the island has it all.”
