Epic problems won’t affect Atlantic crossing

Problems with the propulsion system on Norwegian Epic, the new superliner debuting in Southampton this week, will not affect its second revenue cruise, the line has said.

Speaking onboard as 2,500 agents enjoyed the facilities on the superliner, UK general manager Stephen Park said the transatlantic cruise to New York would proceed as planned on Thursday afternoon.

Delays hit the ship yesterday as guests were due to board in Rotterdam for the sailing to Southampton. However, the ship was able to make up time and agents were allowed onboard from 6pm.

Park said: “Everyone has been fantastic. Our team in London was able to contact everybody who was due to be onboard, and I’m not aware of anybody who decided not to come as a result.

“These celebrations are an opportunity to showcase the freestyle cruising concept, and I don’t think the delay will impact on people’s enjoyment of the ship.”

Epic remained moored in Southampton this morning before heading out to sea for a planned trade inaugural.
