Ace 2010: Classic International Cruises opens UK sales office

Heritage cruise company Classic International Cruises has established a UK sales office in a bid to raise its profile with the trade.

The five-vessel fleet of ships are regularly chartered by UK operators.

But the ending of an arrangement with Page and Moy for the ship Athena after this year has prompted the creation of a stand-alone UK presence alongside London-based Seafarer Cruising.

Classic has issued 2011 brochures at the UK Cruise Convention covering Northern Europe and the eastern Mediterranean and a winter Far East programme.

The company is emphasising its small ship attributes with destination-heavy itineraries.

The 552-passenger Athena will operate from Dover, Newcastle and Roysth (Edinburgh) on five sailings between May and September next year, including a round Britain sailing.

Travel Weekly is the official trade media partner of the UK Cruise Convention 2010The 320-passenger Arion operates next summer from Cyprus and Antalya to destinations such as Syria, Lebanon and Egypt.

The winter 2010-11 brochure for 479-passenger Princess Daphne sees departures from Singapore and Hong Kong between December and March.

Joint managing director Alexandros Potamianos said: “Classic has operated in the UK market for more than 20 years but primarily as a third party operator.

“We provide passengers with a smaller ship experience with longer times in ports and overnight stays.”
