Travelworld buys Top Travel agencies

TRAVELWORLD has bought six agencies from failed retailer Top Travel, in a deal thought to be worth around £100,000.

The branches at Stafford, Uttoxeter, Wendesfield, Sandbach and Newcastle-under-Lyme are all being rebranded as Travelworld. The business from a sixth shop, in Lichfield, has also been bought, but the branch will remain closed. The Huddersfield-based retailer now has 123 shops. Barnstaple-based Let’s Go is thought to be buying the other four Top Travel Shops but was unavailable for comment.

Travelworld is also negotiating to buy northeast-based Pleasure and Leisure Travel, which ceased trading last month, and is thought to have tabled a £3m bid for 25-branch Apollo Travel. Apollo owner Cosmos values the retailer at £5m.
