Powell appointed to MD role

Thomson deputy managing director Shaun Powell has been promoted to acting MD until the end of the year.

Travel Weekly exclusively revealed last week that Powell was due to be moved up (Travel Weekly, September 27).

The change has come about because current Thomson Holidays and UKdistribution MD Richard Bowden-Doyle has been taken away from the day-to-day running of the operator to head Thomson Travel Group’s comprehensive review of its businesses.

This move was instigated by acting chief executive Roger Burnell.

Bowden-Doyle is expected to recommend changes to its distribution strategy, and closer links between Thomson and in-house agency Lunn Poly.

He will work on the review along with a team of about 10 people taken from various areas of the business, including finance, systems and yield management.

A Thomson spokesman said:”The review is across the board and therefore it is right that Richard Bowden-Doyle is leading it.

Meanwhile, Thomson is seeking a trading director to oversee sales and yield management.
