Cruise ship strikes whale

A Princess Cruises’ ship has struck a humpback whale while sailing in Alaska.

The dead whale became stuck to the bow of 116,000-ton Sapphire Princess.

The 2,674-passenger ship was stopped south of Douglas Island until the carcass could be removed.

The dead whale was noticed as the ship travelled from Ketchikan to Juneau.

The cruise was delayed for several hours while state officials removed the animal, and federal authorities now are looking into the cause of its death, according to local reports.

The incident comes a year after the same ship hit a rare fin whale while sailing in Alaska. The animal was believed to have been sick or dead before being struck by the vessel.
