First Choice and Thomson parent Tui Travel has smashed its forecast sales of pre-paid foreign currency cards during the first year of introduction.
Sales through 860 Thomson and First Choice agencies in the UK exceeded 100,000 cards, double the company’s original forecast.
There were 50,000 branded travel money cards sold in six months, boosting revenue and driving higher travel money conversion rates within its branches.
Tui has used a software platform called UltraPoS from foreign exchange and pre-paid point of sale systems provider SCL to manage the sale of the cards.
Tui Travel financial service director Jeremy Osborne said: “The results have exceeded all our expectations.
“Thanks to UltraPoS prepaid has proven to be the most effective means of maximising our share of customer foreign exchange spend, streamlining our currency business, and supporting our customers’ changing needs.
“It also gives us the flexibility to add further services, such as loyalty and gift cards, should the business need arise.”
The Thomson and First Choice branded travel money cards are available in euros and US dollars and can be issued and re-loaded at any of the company’s retail outlets.
