Recruitment consultants New Frontiers have launched a legal hotline for employers and employees.

The move follows an increase in the amount of queries the agency has received regarding recent changes to the employment law.

Noticeably, it has been dealing with an upsurge in enquiries regarding working hours and the policy on maternity benefits.

New Frontiers managing director Julia Feuell will be appointing a dedicated person to head the hotline. “In all industries, but particularly in travel, there can be a bad relationship between employers and employees,”said Feuell.

“This is because, traditionally, there are a lot of part-time and casual workers in travel all required to work long and unsociable hours for relatively little money.

“This leads to a high turnover of staff and can result in friction,” she said.

Feuell points out that the hotline is as much for employers as it is for employees. “Employment law has become such a minefield that it is so easy for employers to get tripped up,” she said.

The hotline is being backed by employment law experts Peninsula, with whom New Frontiers has worked closely for the last three years.

The hotline is currently being trialled on the office’s main number 020-7833 9977 but a separate number will be launched in about a month.

All calls to the hotline are strictly confidential.
