Flybe franchise partner Eastern Airways is to start Sunday flying between Newcastle and Cardiff.
The return flights from the north-east start on January 12 to complement a weekday service.
Sunday flights will depart Newcastle at 1.05pm and return from Cardiff at 3.15pm with fares starting at £99 one-way.
The move follows Flybe’s recent announcement that it will operate flights to Southend from Newcastle airport for summer 2020 and increase frequency to Southampton.
Eastern Airways’ general manager commercial and operations, Roger Hage, said: “By adding the Sunday services, these flights will not only appeal to business travellers heading to Cardiff or Newcastle in advance of Monday, but also leisure passengers taking advantage of weekend breaks or sporting events in both vibrant cities.
“These additional services also complement the route expansion Flybe has recently announced from Newcastle.”
Newcastle airport head of aviation development, Leon McQuaid, added: “It is great to see further investment from Flybe as they enhance their Cardiff schedule, giving flexibility for our passengers and extra choice around the weekend.”
