WTM 2010 preview: Caribbean stands

Jamaica CA240

Avatar eat your heart out. Agents at World Travel Market will be able to see Jamaica in three dimensions at stand CA240, where the Jamaican Tourist Board will be showing an exciting 3D film of the island – a world first in destination marketing.

Agents will also find out about Jamaica’s new cruise port at Falmouth, due for completion at the end of the year, and new hotels, including two Secrets properties, the re-opening of the refurbished Goldeneye resort, and the opening of the state-of-the-art Montego Bay Convention Centre.

St Lucia CA325

Pop by the St Lucia Tourist Board stand to sample award-winning rum before climbing into a specially built ‘dream pod’ to have your dreams interpreted by a dream psychologist.

Having dubbed St Lucia a ‘dream destination’, the experts will be there to give agents the lowdown on new properties, British Airways’ daily direct service starting on March 27, 2011, and the tourist board’s ‘Go Bananas’ summer promotion.

Agents can also find out about the St Lucia Expert training programme and fam trip opportunities.

Cotton Bay Village will be also be at the St Lucia stand to launch its ‘White Glove Programme’, offering practical support, training and financial rewards, including guaranteed commission and a free annual four-night stay at the hotel.

Barbados CA3000

Visit the Barbados Tourism Authority stand to find out how you can bag a place on its next mega fam and to find out about Elegant Hotels Group’s newly-refurbished Tamarind resort.

Dominican Republic CA150

There’s a lot going on for the Dominican Republic too with increased airlift, thanks to BA’s twice-weekly service from Gatwick to Punta Cana, and more upmarket properties coming online, including the trendy Nikki Beach, which opened this year.

Luxury tour operators have flocked to feature the island, including Kuoni, Caribtours and ITC Classics, and stakeholders at the stand will have further information on this new side of the destination, including spa and golf facilities.

Aruba CA420

The Aruba Tourism Authority at stand CA420 will highlight the easy access from the UK after Thomson launched a direct flight from Manchester this year. Plus, British Airways’ partnership with American Airlines will allow UK flyers to connect through Miami and JFK.

There will also be information on future openings, including the new Ritz-Carlton, on Palm Beach, and Aruba’s online celebrations registry, arubacelebrationsregistry.com.

Antigua and Barbuda CA2020

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority will be bringing some big hitters to its stand CA2020. Cricketing legends Sir Viv Richards and Richie Richardson will be on the stand on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to highlight its strong sports tourism offering.

The tourism board will also be promoting its new hotel initiative, Very Intimate Places (VIP), aimed at promoting locally-owned accommodation offering a typical Antigua experience, and celebrating BA’s new Gatwick to Antigua service, starting on March 27, 2011.

Montserrat CA435

It’s now 15 years since the eruption of the Soufrière Hills Volcano on Montserrat. Despite the fact the volcano has rendered more than half the island uninhabitable, Montserrat is working hard to attract more tourists.

Visitors to stand CA435 will be able to learn about plans for a new airport, new airline, new capital city and even a new state of the art volcanic observatory and Volcano Social History Centre.

Bermuda CA448

Agents who wish to learn more about Bermuda should go to stand CA448. There they will find out about the renovation and redevelopments of resorts such as 9 Beaches, Elbow Beach, Tucker’s Point, the Fairmont Southampton and The Reefs, and will be able to register for the Bermuda Reward agent incentive programme.

Nevis CA315

Head to the Nevis stand at to hear about Nisbet Plantation’s new online training facility before taking advantage of the happy hour from 4pm-6pm on Tuesday.
