Tunisia is preparing for a record 2011 as it reaps the benefits of new capacity and value-for-money family packages.
The destination has already enjoyed a year-on-year increase of 31.2% in visitor numbers to date this year from the UK, to 318,172. Numbers are expected to top 360,000 next year, the peak number of UK visitors in 2006.
New services for 2011 include direct flights with Jet2.com from Glasgow to Monastir starting in April and flights to Djerba with Tui Travel and Thomas Cook. First Choice is also opening a new holiday village in Hammamet.
Tunisair launched a new route from Gatwick to Djerba earlier this year and Jet2.com introduced new services to Monastir from Newcastle, Manchester and Leeds Bradford.
“Operators are really pushing Tunisia as an affordable break,” said a spokeswoman for the Tunisian National Tourist Office.
Tunisia has benefitted from being outside the euro currency zone, she added, and is seen as one of the package holiday hotspots for next year alongside destinations such as Turkey, Cyprus, Malta and Morocco.
