SeaDream plans Amazon cruises

SeaDream Yacht Club has confirmed plans to run its first cruises up the Amazon in 2012. The luxury small ship line will run two 20-night voyages with the 112-passenger vessel SeaDream II.

The yacht will sail from Barbados on February 13 to Iquitos in Peru and return from Iquitos on March 4 with a naturalist on board each cruise to give information on the river.

The itineraries are designed to showcase the best of the Amazon including Cuxiu Muni in Brazil where passengers can take a night canoe trip in search of crocodiles, snakes and other creatures.

Other excursions include a ‘flightseeing’ trip in a private aircraft from Manaus in Brazil to view the jungle and river from the air. Cruise-only prices for the two voyages start at $11,799 per person, plus $1,120 for taxes, fees and handling charges.

The line has also released its 2011-12 Caribbean programme featuring the yachts SeaDream 1 and II. President Bob Lepisto said:

“We are thrilled to be adding the Amazon to our programme of itineraries. It is our [ships’] size and maneuverability that allows our yachts to reach tricky spots like Anavilhanas, Brazil and Iquitos, Peru.

“While at the same time, the British Virgin Islands, such us Norman Island, Jost van Dyke and Virgin Gorda are true yachting destinations and continue to be a favourite with our SeaDream guests.”
