Abta head of finance Mike Monk is to leave the association in February after 17 years.
Monk provided direct financial advice to members over the years and framed Abta’s policies on financial protection.
Monk was also a key member of the Prevention of Fraud in Travel Group, a committee set up last year by Teletext head of complaince Barry Gooch to combat fraud in the travel industry.
Sunvil managing director Noel Josephides, Abta board member and chairman of the membership committee, said: “Mike Monk has made an immense contribution. He brought a wealth of experience and stability to Abta. A lot of what Abta has achieved financially has been through him. His departure is a sad loss to the association.”
An Abta spokeswoman said: “We can confirm Mike Monk is leaving Abta and we wish him every success in the future. We are not aware of his future plans.”
Senior industry sources told Travel Weekly it would be difficult to replace Monk and Abta may have to bring in more than one person to fulfil his role. However, it was suggested his departure might be an opportunity for Abta to review its financial requirements for members.
