A 3D animated character – Princess Fiona from the Shrek movies – has been unveiled as godmother of Allure of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship.
The larger than life DreamWorks Animation character presided over the formal naming of the $1.4 billion ship with Royal Caribbean Cruises chairman and chief executive Richard Fain.
The line said the naming ceremony was testimony to the 6,300-passenger vessel being known as the ‘Entertainment Ship’ and the line’s partnership with the film studio.
The formal one-night ship naming, attended by 3,500 guests, took place in Allure’s main Amber Theatre and was broadcast live throughout the ship, as well as via streaming video online.
Fain said: “It’s never easy choosing the right godmother, but we realised we had the perfect candidate right in front of us.
“Princess Fiona is not only a Royal, but we felt such a unique ship deserved a unique godmother and Princess Fiona symbolizes the fun and entertainment that is so extraordinary on Allure of the Seas.”
