The havoc wreaked on the travel industry by Hurricane Floyd goes on.
To have one of Backchat’s intrepid reporters stranded abroad (Travel Weekly September 20) is unfortunate, but two looks like carelessness.
The latest Floyd fiasco happened just as our correspondent was checking into a hotel in Washington, ready for a hefty couple of days interviewing the bigwigs of the Marriott corporation.
Briefed to come back with a brace of stories from the mouth of JW Marriott himself, our woman in Washington was told by remorseful PRs that the interview was off and all 40 US journalists on the trip had been told to stay at home.
“Don’t worry about your stories – this gives you the chance to do some great sightseeing!” piped the oh-so-positive PR woman.
Backchat thinks Travel Weekly’s editor should be sent on the same look-on-the-bright-side management course she surely must have attended.
