Airports shut as snow hits the UK

Heavy snow and ice led to a number of UK airports being shut this morning – the first day of the pre-Christmas peak travel period.

Flights were suspended at Aberdeen, Inverness, Norwich, Exeter, City of Derry, Belfast City and Belfast International airports.

There were warnings of possible disruption at other airports, including Gatwick and Heathrow. ScotRail, Arriva and Virgin train services in Wales are suffering from delays and cancellations.

More snow is forecast later today and tomorrow, with up to 10 inches in Wales and southern and central England.
