Maersk sells 50% stake in DFDS Travel

BUSINESS travel agency Maersk DFDS Travel is to change its name to DFDS Travel and introduce a new company logo after part-owner Maersk sold its 50% share in the company.

The agency is now wholly owned by Danish transport company DFDS and has been combined with another DFDS-owned agency, Dan Transport, with a total turnover of £175m.

DFDS put the travel division up for sale, but has now taken it off the market because interested parties thought the price was too high.

DFDS Travel UK managing director Mike Carrivick said: “DFDS wanted to concentrate on its core business of transport and so let it be known the travel agency division was up for sale.

“There was a lot of interest, but DFDS felt the company’s value had not been reflected. The company says it will keep the travel business and is prepared to invest as required.”
