Turkey and Spain top summer enquiries

Turkey and Spain have topped the list as the most popular post-Christmas holiday requests for summer 2011, according to Thomas Cook.

Behind Turkey in second place comes the Balearic Islands, followed by the Canary Islands and mainland Spain. The US is in fifth place.

The top five winter holiday destinations are the Canary Islands, Egypt, France, mainland Spain and Turkey.

The statistics come from to enquiries received in Thomas Cook and Going Places agencies across the UK in the days after Christmas Day.

Thomas Cook managing director of sales Joanna Wild said: “No doubt helped by the continued cold weather, our stores across the country have been busy fielding enquiries for holidays to destinations ranging from Antalya to Zante.

“With holidaymakers taking advantage of our traditional post-Christmas early booking deals, the most popular summer 2011 queries have been for Turkey and the Spanish mainland and islands, while winter queries are showing a lean towards the islands of Tenerife and Lanzarote in the Canaries as many look to defrost in warmer climes.”
