Travelsupermarket predicts travel sales surge for today

A surge in summer holiday bookings is being predicted for today – the busiest day of the post-Christmas rush for booking holidays online.

Travel comparison site travelsupermarket.com expects to see a 36% increase in traffic today as consumers and book their getaway.

The company’s travel analyst Bon Atkinson said: “This year there are some amazing deals to be had with discounts of up to 50% on the brochure prices of packages, 60% off hotel prices and deposits to secure your booking from as little as £5 per person.

“Overseas package holidays, flights and hotels don’t attract VAT, so they have not risen in price like other high street products.

“You’ll only pay extra due to VAT if you opt for a holiday or break here in the UK.”

The company researched the websites of 16 of the biggest online holiday package brands and travel agents that specialise in  package holidays, including Virgin Holidays, Thomas Cook, lastminute.com, Thomson and Expedia, to find out what deals are available.
