Barrhead Travel opens 22nd branch

Scottish independent travel group Barrhead Travel has opened its 22nd agency branch.

Eight staff will be employed at the outlet in Hamilton which will open seven days a week.

The group, which has seen turnover rise by 20% to £100 million in the last 12 months, plans to open a further four branches across Scotland in the first quarter of 2011.

This will see the workforce exceed 500 employees in the next year.

Chief executive Sharon Munro, said: “We have enjoyed a hugely successful 12 months with the launch of our own-brand package holidays, opening our first outlet outside of Scotland and scooping eight industry awards in the process.

“We are determined to build on our achievements over the last year and are investing hundreds of thousands of pounds in new branches, websites, training, technology and IT infrastructure.

“Our aim is to open another four new branches, over the next three months and expand many of our existing branches during 2011.

“As a result, we will be recruiting more staff across all levels to support the company’s growth.”

The Hamilton branch will be run by 41 year old Craig Carroll, who has 25 years experience in the travel industry.

He said: “One of the best things about opening this branch is the opportunity to bring new jobs to Hamilton, when so many other travel agencies are laying-off staff.

“We have a team of very knowledgeable travel consultants ready and raring to go in the new branch, with a huge amount of experience in the industry, working both full and part time.”
