BA and Unite head for Acas talks

British Airways and trade union Unite are expected to hold talks this week aimed at averting renewed strikes by cabin crew.

Almost 6,000 BA crew voted to resume strike action in a ballot that ended last Friday. Talks are likely to be held through conciliation service Acas in London. Unite members went on strike for 22 days last year in a dispute over changes to crewing.

Now they want an end to what they regard as the victimisation of strikers through the loss of travel concessions and disciplinary action. BA pointed out just under half its total cabin crew voted in favour of new strikes. The airline declined to discuss the dispute, a spokeswoman saying: “We will not be giving a running commentary.” However, BA confirmed it is in contact with Acas.
