Thomas Cook has suspended excursions to Cairo today (Friday) from Red Sea resorts due to continuing anti-government demonstrations in Egypt.
The operator cancelled all of its excursions to the capital from Sharm El Sheikh as a precautionary measure as further violent protests are expected.
Excursions to Cairo planned for tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday are due to take place. A Thomas Cook spokesman said: “We continue to monitor the situation in Egypt and we are in close contact with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
“Our experienced teams on the ground assure us that no tourist areas at the Red Sea have been affected in any way by the recent demonstrations.
“They are fully operational and holidaymakers are continuing to enjoy the popular resorts of Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada.”
The news comes as Egypt specialist Discover Egypt moved to calm fears over the unrest.
