The naming ceremony of Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ new ship was watched by more than 35,000 people on Facebook and YouTube.
Seven Seas Splendor was christened in Miami by godmother, actress and model Christie Brinkley followed by a performance by singer Seal.
Serena Melani, claimed be first woman to captain a newly built ocean cruise ship, has taken the helm of the 750-passenger all-suite vessel.
She told the audience that women can achieve any goal with perseverance and hard work, and that the ship’s 550 crew deserve recognition for providing the highest levels of personalised service and comfort on board.
Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive of parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, said: “Every ship we launch gets even better, and Seven Seas Splendor is magnificent.
